Volunteer

Give a little time, share a lot of friendship

Volunteering is one of the simplest ways to help older people feel connected and valued.

Why volunteering matters

A friendly face and a little of someone's time can make a real difference. Volunteers help create the kind of community where older people are known, welcomed and included — and many volunteers find it just as rewarding themselves.

Possible volunteer roles

  • Friendly companion — spending time in conversation and company
  • Walking companion — joining group walks and outings
  • Event helper — welcoming people and helping things run smoothly
  • Transport or practical support — where appropriate
  • Administration and communications
These are examples of how volunteers might help. The association has not yet confirmed a formal volunteer programme, time commitments or role descriptions; these will be published once agreed.

Safeguarding

Anyone volunteering with older people should expect appropriate safeguarding steps, which may include references, Garda vetting where required by law, and induction. Please read our Safeguarding Policy.
